A man was found fatally shot inside his truck, which was submerged in Fishtrap Lake in West Dallas, prompting an investigation by local authorities. The incident occurred late Tuesday night, and despite the quick response from police, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Shortly before the tragic discovery, witnesses reported an altercation between two drivers in a parking lot near a shopping center at the intersection of Singleton Boulevard and North Hampton Road. Following the confrontation, gunfire erupted, leading the suspect to flee the area.
The victim, who was also involved in the confrontation, drove away rapidly but appeared to lose consciousness due to his injuries. His vehicle traveled approximately one mile before plunging into the lake, situated near Interstate 30 and Hampton Road.
At around 11:30 p.m., multiple 911 calls alerted police to the submerged truck. Officers entered the water in an attempt to rescue the driver, only to find he had suffered a gunshot wound. Emergency personnel confirmed his death at the scene.
Residents living nearby recounted hearing the sounds of gunfire and witnessing the police response at the lake. One neighbor described the chaotic scene, stating, “They heard gunshots. One of the ladies who lives on this hallway facing the lake heard a bunch of gunshots and then got up and saw that there were cops at the lake.”
Another local, Jarrett McDonald, expressed the tragedy of the situation, remarking, “That’s bad for the person who did the incident and bad for the person who lost his life. It’s a no-win situation. It’s no good.”
Authorities have yet to release the identity of the victim, as they are still notifying next of kin. Additionally, there are no details available regarding the suspect or the vehicle involved in the incident, as the investigation continues.
