Houston Police Initiates Homicide Investigation Following Discovery of Body in Trash Can

Houston police have initiated a homicide investigation following the discovery of a body inside an overturned trash can at an apartment complex in the Third Ward early Sunday morning.

Officers responded to the scene at approximately 12:13 a.m. after receiving a 911 call that reported gunshots and a person attempting to conceal a body in a trash receptacle. Unfortunately, the caller had blocked their phone number, preventing authorities from contacting them for further information. Upon arrival, officers found no witnesses present.

While searching the parking lot, law enforcement officials located the overturned trash can containing the deceased individual. The exact cause of death and the nature of the injuries remain undetermined at this time. A police spokesperson commented, “It was hard to tell the kind of trauma that was done. We couldn’t tell if it was gunshot or blunt trauma or anything yet.”

During their investigation, officers discovered a blood trail leading to a nearby apartment unit. When they attempted to make contact, a man inside refused to comply with their commands. Consequently, the department’s Patrol Support Team utilized breaching equipment to enter the residence and took the man into custody.

Authorities are currently questioning both this individual and another person as part of their investigation. At this stage, they are considered persons of interest, but no formal suspects have been identified. Homicide investigators remain at the scene to examine the body and collect evidence.
