In a solemn tribute at the Texas Capitol, Governor Greg Abbott honored the sacrifice of fallen officers during the Texas Peace Officers’ Memorial Ceremony held on a recent Sunday afternoon. The event attracted hundreds of law enforcement personnel and their supporters, all gathered to pay respects to those who lost their lives in the line of duty.
Twenty-five new names were added to the memorial, commemorating officers who passed away in 2025 as well as those from previous years. Families of the fallen were presented with the Texas Medal of Honor, a gesture that Governor Abbott emphasized was just a small token of appreciation for their loved ones’ sacrifices.
Governor Abbott expressed his heartfelt condolences, stating, “We know that there are no words that can fully repay what these officers and their families have given to us. No ceremony, no monument, no speech can fill the void with someone that you love. But we can give you this, our unwavering gratitude, and our solemn promise that we will never stop honoring their legacy in Texas.”
Among those remembered was Senior Officer Eric Lindsey, who served the Austin Police Department for two decades. Lindsey tragically passed away in December 2021 due to complications related to COVID-19, contracted while on duty.
The ceremony also honored five historical peace officers, recognizing their contributions to law enforcement dating back to the late 1800s. The full list of officers honored included:
