A nine-year-old girl has tragically lost her life following a crash on the I-35 service road at Woodward Street in Austin, Texas. Lilliana Segura was pronounced dead at the hospital after sustaining injuries in the incident, which occurred on September 9.
On the morning of the crash, Austin police responded to a two-vehicle collision involving a Jeep Compass and a Tesla Cybertruck. The Jeep contained a driver and two children, while the Tesla had only its driver present. Both children were transported to a local hospital, where Lilliana succumbed to her injuries. The other child remains hospitalized in critical condition, and both drivers were also taken for treatment.
According to preliminary investigations, the Jeep was traveling north on the I-35 service road, while the Tesla was heading west on the East Ben White service road at the time of the accident. Detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances leading up to the crash. Both drivers are reported to be cooperating with the inquiry, and police have stated that neither was under the influence at the time of the accident.
This incident marks the 56th fatal crash in Austin for the year, resulting in a total of 56 fatalities. In comparison, there were 71 fatal crashes and 75 deaths on the same date last year.
Emergency services, including STARFlight, were called to the scene. Following the incident, the south I-35 service road was closed to traffic at Ben White Boulevard, with additional closures affecting the northbound I-35 service road and the Ben White westbound intersection.
As the situation developed, Austin-Travis County EMS reported that three individuals were transported to hospitals, with two children in critical condition taken to Dell Children’s Medical Center, and one adult suffering serious but non-life-threatening injuries taken to St. David’s South Austin Medical Center. By midday, authorities announced that the roadway had reopened.
