A Fort Worth family experienced a harrowing close call when a speeding driver lost control of his vehicle and crashed into their backyard, narrowly missing three children who were enjoying a day in the pool. The incident, which unfolded on a Sunday evening, has left the family shaken, despite the fortunate outcome.
The crash occurred around 7 p.m. in north Fort Worth, where police reported that the driver of a Chevy Camaro was speeding along Heritage Trace Parkway. The vehicle careened through a wooden fence, collided with a concrete pillar, and then bounced back onto the street before coming to a halt.
Surveillance footage from the home captured the terrifying moment. In the video, the car crashes through the fence just moments after a young child passes by, with debris, including chunks of concrete and large rocks, narrowly avoiding the 2-year-old girl and her 5-year-old twin brothers. Fortunately, none of the children were injured during the incident.
The homeowners, while sharing the video with local news, opted not to participate in an on-camera interview. In the aftermath, District 4 Councilman Charlie Lauersdorf visited the family to offer support. He expressed his concerns about speeding and distracted driving in the area, emphasizing the need for policymakers to address these safety issues effectively.
Lauersdorf highlighted that while the damage to property is significant, the primary concern remains public safety. “This fence is HOA property, but the bigger issue is distracted driving and speeding. We need to understand what led to this incident,” he remarked.
At this time, the police have not disclosed the identity of the driver, who was cited for reckless driving. Witnesses described him as a young man in his early twenties. Reports indicate that he had a passenger in the vehicle, who was subsequently taken to the hospital with a head injury.
