Big Tex Makes a Comeback: State Fair of Texas Officials Address Security Measures

DALLAS – As the countdown to the State Fair of Texas begins, Big Tex is making his grand return to Fair Park this Friday morning, heralding the start of the 140th annual event. The iconic 55-foot cowboy is currently being installed in preparation for the festivities, which kick off next Friday and continue until October 18.

This year, Big Tex showcases a fresh new look, complete with custom-designed Texas-themed boots adorned with Lone Star symbols like bluebonnets and longhorns, along with vibrant red and blue accents that pay tribute to the Texas flag.

Adding to his revamped appearance, Big Tex is sporting a pair of Levi’s 501 jeans tailored for the occasion. These jeans boast a waist size of 380 and a length of 290, crafted from 85 yards of denim and weighing approximately 132 pounds. His new Cavender’s pearl snap shirt, featuring a bold red color with navy blue and white accents, will also undergo annual updates to reflect significant milestones related to the fair, the state, or the nation.

Safety Preparations for the Fair

While the installation of Big Tex is a visible indicator of the fair’s impending arrival, extensive preparations are also taking place behind the scenes. State Fair officials have emphasized that safety remains their foremost concern. A news conference is scheduled for 11 a.m. to outline the fair’s security measures.

Among the safety protocols that will be upheld are the clear bag policy and a ban on firearms within Fair Park, ensuring a secure environment for all attendees.

As excitement builds for the State Fair of Texas, visitors can look forward to not only the return of Big Tex but also a range of attractions and events scheduled throughout the fair’s duration.
