Bexar County residents receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits have until September 17 to apply for assistance to replace food lost or damaged due to recent storms. Additionally, participants in the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program can also seek replacement benefits for spoiled or damaged food purchased in September by contacting their local office by September 30.
Residents eligible for SNAP replacement benefits can initiate their requests by calling 2-1-1 and selecting option 7, or they may visit a local office of the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC). To locate a nearby HHSC office, individuals can visit YourTexasBenefits.com and select the “Find an Office” option.
WIC Benefits Available
Those enrolled in the WIC program may request replacement benefits for food purchased with September WIC allocations that were lost due to power outages or storm damage. WIC participants should reach out to their local WIC office by September 30 to discuss their options. Information on local offices can be found at TexasWIC.org.
Support for Affected Families
Governor Greg Abbott emphasized the importance of support for families recovering from severe weather events, stating, “As families across Texas recover from recent severe weather and flooding, it is critical that they have the support they need to rebuild. SNAP replacement benefits will help families replace food that was lost or destroyed as we deliver all available resources to affected Texans.”
Additional Resources
Texans impacted by disasters can find more information on available assistance by visiting the HHSC Receiving Disaster Assistance webpage. For local resources such as food or shelter, residents can call 2-1-1 and select option 1 for guidance.
