A significant sewage spill in Duncanville, Texas, has prompted local crews to undertake cleanup efforts following the overflow into a residential backyard and drainage easement.
The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, was attributed to debris from nearby utility construction that infiltrated the city’s wastewater collection system, resulting in a sanitary sewer overflow. The sewage affected an area along Little Creek Drive, necessitating immediate action from city officials.
As cleanup and disinfection activities progress, residents utilizing private water wells within a half-mile radius of the spill have been advised to boil their water prior to consumption. Fortunately, no reports of dead fish or significant environmental damage have been documented thus far.
“The City of Duncanville is dedicated to ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents. We are in compliance with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) regulations regarding wastewater discharge. In instances where a spill exceeds 100,000 gallons, our teams are proactive in mitigating impacts and collecting laboratory samples along the drainage easement once the overflow has ceased,” officials stated.
