TARRANT COUNTY, Texas – An investigation is underway following a fatal shooting involving two police officers from River Oaks. The incident occurred during a welfare check related to a report of a suicidal individual on Monday night.
Officers were dispatched around 9:28 p.m. to a residence located on the 900 block of Yale Street. Upon their arrival, they found an adult male inside the home. According to statements from the River Oaks Police Department, the man emerged from the residence armed with a handgun.
Despite commands from the officers to drop the weapon, the man reportedly aimed his firearm at them, prompting both officers to discharge their weapons, resulting in the man’s death.
Emergency medical aid was rendered at the scene until paramedics from the River Oaks Fire Department arrived, but the man was pronounced dead at the location. His identity has not been released pending notification of his family.
Fortunately, neither of the officers involved sustained injuries during the incident. In line with departmental protocols, both officers have been placed on administrative leave with pay.
The Texas Rangers, in conjunction with the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office Officer Involved Shooting Team, will conduct an independent investigation into the shooting. The River Oaks Police Department will also perform an internal administrative review.
